History of the teams’ meetings

A fixture which was once a mainstay of the 2000s era EFL now takes centre stage in non-league’s premier division.

The two sides have met a few times in recent years, with Southend largely getting the better of the Glovers.

Since their league meeting in October 2022, the Shrimpers have picked up four wins, whilst being held to a draw once and also tasting defeat just once.

Fun Facts

Nicknamed the Shrimpers because of the area's historical connection to the Maritime (fishing) industry. This is also one of the quarters on the club’s badge!

Former Premier League footballer Kieron Dyer competed in I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! Series 15 in November and December 2015. He finished in fourth place after spending 21 days in the jungle and donated his entire appearance fee to the Jude Brady Foundation.

The club’s relegation from League Two back in 2021 marked the first time they had ever dropped out of the English Football League.

If not for poor end-of-season form, they could have been a founding member of the then newly formed Premier League.

Oli Coker

Coker was named Southend captain during the summer, after immediately impressing new manager Kieron Dyer.

Since assuming the role, he’s got off to a terrific start, scoring in the club’s opening game against Altrincham.

Leon Chambers-Parilon

The 24-year-old is entering the third year of his stay at Roots Hall.

He’s played a part in the club’s recent pushes for promotion. His goals in the play-off quarter-final and the eventual final certainly live long in the memory.

Like Coker, he also got off to the perfect start on the opening day with a goal against Altirncham..

Luke McCormick

McCormick penned a new deal last season, and it’s really no surprise. He was a consistent standout last season, with his eleven goal contributions proving pivotal.

The now Glovers captain came through the illustrious Chelsea academy before spending time in the EFL with Bristol Rovers. It seems like the experience served him well, as he continues to impress for Yeovil.

Slavi Spasov

Interestingly, Spasov made the switch from Southend to Yeovil this summer. The meeting between the two sides sees the Bulgarian return to Roots Hall for the first time.

He managed seven goals in the league last season, one of which came in the 92nd minute away at Yeovil to steal all three points.
